I just had to share this after seeing it over on loricat’s booknook.
Especially as Moby Dick is one of those very few books that I’ve started on several occasions but have never been able to finish (well, until now
), much to my friend Blues’s dismay. Luckily Blues still talks to me after the copy he sent me as a gift remains only partially read.
Hope you enjoy this wonderful illustrated haiku Moby Dick as much as I did.

It took me three starts, and a trip to the hospital with nothing else to do for a week, but I finally finished it.

Hi mad & Uncle Keith and welcome.
I reckon people know the story from seeing one of these many adaptations, mad (the Tom and Jerry one looks quite good!), just as most people know the opening sentence. Perhaps because that’s as far as they get?
Uncle Keith, I think a week in hospital with nothing else to do would probably do it for me too.

I read a comic-strip version when I was a wee lad, but it’s probably about time I read the real thing.
What other first lines stick in people’s minds?

Over on MadHaiku’s blog someone asked if he was going to do Ulysses next and he replied:
I’m really hoping this isn’t a “no”…

Endeavouring to help MadHaiku attempt a haiku version of Joyce’s Ulysses, which he says “would be pretty much friggin impossible”, I have found this handy guide…
