plan of action

Started working on a biz plan today. . .

Well, a couple of them in fact. All tied up with and thanks to a couple of wonderful women I’ve met at different AWC meet ups. Sort of a follow-up (addition to?) my global brainstorming session post from last January.

Anyhow, I’ve found what looks like a good biz plan template online and took the first baby steps this week to start making it more than just something that makes my eyes glaze over by page 3. This means it involves having another real person in the room with me and going through it all together. Bouncing ideas off each other to our mutual benefit. Stuff like that. It’s all looking very positive.

Now I just have to get over feeling so scared.

despair wear

Fist seen over at SG V’s… who has apparently purchased a couple of t-shirts from Despair Wear™. What fabulously depressing products! I can see that Christmas shopping this year has just become a lot easier. :)

yay! sandal weather!

Today is the first time I’ve worn sandals this year … just a bit later than last year. But I haven’t been out a lot in the afternoons lately and mornings & evenings are still a bit coolish. Anyhow, it felt wonderful, though as it was a last minute decision I didn’t have time for ‘happy toes’, so I will have to start painting my toenails cherry red again. :)

what’s your little black dress?

I received a comment from hmh on Sunday’s little black dress post, and she mentioned a wine company by that name that she likes. So I had a look at their very cool website and saw they have a little black dress quiz.

Never underestimate what can be achieved with a little black dress, as was previously shown here.

My quiz results follow … wasn’t really surprised to be boring old ‘classic’.

gibraltar, here I come?

Will it be third time lucky???

As I mentioned on the travelling plans post, my friend Carmen has very generously offered to drive me to Gibraltar to buy underwear at Marks & Spencer, but the date has been moved up to this Saturday instead of the 22nd. And really, not a moment too soon given the very sad and sorry state of my knickers. Of course given my bad luck with having tried to get to this place twice in the past (mentioned here and here) I probably won’t believe it until I’m actually through passport control and walking through the M&S front doors on Saturday morning.

Anyhow, I’m getting quite excited and also plan to stock up on mince pies if they have any. And maybe a sweater or two. Oooh, and some socks. . .

oh, the irony …

Click if you dare.

Is that not totally hideous? And ironically or otherwise, I found it earlier today when I came across this blog, which is supposedly all about “Fashion, Lifestyle, and Humor for the Plus-Sized Woman”.

Ya think?

summer wardrobe

Gaaaaa I hate sewing!!!

Which may come as a surprise to those of you who have seen this place, but of course I have very talented seamstresses who sew the production for that - though I do sweat blood making up the first samples myself.

Anyhow, it is not only sandal weather but it turns out it is also suddenly no longer light jacket or sweater weather. Which means I’ve got to seriously revamp the summer wardrobe that sadly didn’t get revamped last year.

Which means I’ve got to sew myself some clothes!!!

auction frenzy

I think Audrey would have liked this.

The sale of Audrey Hepburn’s iconic black dress from classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s is to fund 15 new educational centres in India.

Yeah I know, it seems rather obscene to value a dress this much, but the end result achieved something very important and special. A nice news story, for a change.

sandal weather

When does it start?

For the past 4-5 days it’s gone up to about 21ºC in the afternoon. Last Saturday when Nog and I went out for tapas in the late afternoon was the first time I wore sandals this year. But since then I’ve been wearing shoes again … and today I wondered why.

If this was the beginning of November and 21ºC I’d definitely still be wearing sandals. But going in reverse (from cold to warm) it seems to require more than a couple of warm days to make the change.

Also, there seems to be an unwritten rule that people here don’t wear sandals before Semana Santa (Easter week), which is absurd. I don’t fall under this rule as I’m a foreigner and basically people expect me to be a bit weird. So I will be comfortably wearing a skirt with sandals in March when it’s 27º while other women are sweating in tights and shoes.
