How Addicted To Blogging Are You?

ladies who do more than lunch…

bottles.jpg

Some of you may recall that back in January I went to my first AWC luncheon - and last month to my second one - at which time I became an official AWC member.

Well, last night there was a ‘new members tapas night’ scheduled and so Pipocas and I thought we should drop in since we are, in fact, new members. We also decided it would be a good idea to meet for pre-drink drinks before the event just in case of … well, whatever. Then awhile later - where had the time gone? - I got a call from Rena (one of the AWC directors) while Pipocas and I were on our second pre-drink drink asking if we were still coming, so we high-tailed it over to the tapas bar that had been chosen for this event, just up the street…f_run.gif

symmetry

Hours of fun for the whole family with the Funny Face Generator

symmetry.jpg passport.jpg symmetry-1.jpg

If you want to see how symmetrical your face is, use a straight on picture of your face with your head held perfectly straight. When placing the midline try to position it directly in the middle of the nose. That’s my passport photo in the centre - the most ’straight on’ pic I have. So much for symmetry=beauty. Unless you happen to fancy Russian peasants or inbred pinheads.

nog-symmetrical1.jpg nog-cv.jpg nog-symmetrical2.jpg

If you want to get a bit more creative try experimenting with different angles, tilted heads, and placing the midline in different places. Play around with it and you can get some hilarious results. Even with just a slightly tilted head Nog comes out looking either like a scary mad scientist or an NFL linebacker.

If you’d like to put your creations in the symmetry album you can email your pics to me along with the orginal photo. I plan on doing a few more myself.

tiredness test

drunk-kitty2.JPG

tired.jpg

This interactive is loosely based on the PVT test which would be carried out under laboratory conditions for ten minutes, testing your response under different sleep conditions.
On average, 220 milliseconds would be a ‘good’ reaction time; people who are very tired take around 300 milliseconds

Didn’t realise I was so tired … off to bed now. f_sleepy.gif

do you speak ikea?

ikea.jpg

Flickr creator Cal Henderson has come up with the Ikea Game, in which people try to identify what type of furnishings those bizarre sounding Ikea names refer to. According to this Grauniad article there’s a way to win the Ikea game every time, but it involves learning Swedish and a lot of Scandanavian place names.

Ikea product names follow a system: because the company’s founder, Ingvar Kamprad, is dyslexic, he found that naming products with proper names and words made them easier to identify.

Sofas, coffee tables, bookshelves, media storage and doorknobs are named after places in Sweden (Klippan, Malmö); beds, wardrobes and hall furniture after places in Norway; carpets after places in Denmark and dining tables and chairs after places in Finland. Bookcases are mainly occupations (Bonde, peasant farmer; Styrman, helmsman). Bathroom stuff is named after lakes and rivers.

Kitchens are generally grammatical terms, and kitchen utensils are spices, herbs, fish, fruits, berries, or functional words such as Skarpt (it means sharp, and it’s a knife). Chairs and desks are Swedish men’s names (Roger, Joel); materials and curtains are women’s names. Children’s items are mammals, birds and adjectives (Ekorre is a set of children’s toy balls; it means squirrel).

Hmmm… I got 4/10.

Looks like I’m going to have to do some serious catalogue cramming.
