Yay! My CT scan and blood test results came back normal!
So that means a happy thumbs-up “all clear” until next time (in 3 months).
It was such a relief when Ricardo called me late yesterday afternoon with the good news. And today he is going to set up an appointment with his oncologist friend Ana so that I don’t have to go back to those other oncs I’ve been seeing. I was a bit confused because I thought each oncology group was for a specific type of cancer, and I’ve seen all three oncs in my group. Well, it turns out that Ana is not only a specialist in breast and colon cancer, but she’s also the second in command of the whole department. And I’ve been told she’s a very no-nonsense kind of person, so I hope I feel more comfortable with her.
So … should I go get that mini ‘puter now?
Yesterday Pip & I were out running a few errands and as we were near El Corte Inglés I took her in to show her the HP mini I’d seen the other day. I also took another look at the Compaq one that was on special offer (400€). And then I asked the sales guy for more info about both minis.
He said he preferred the Compaq Mini because it has an Intel microprocessor (the HP has VIA) and that although it only has 1GB ram its OS is XP, so that won’t matter. It also only has a 60GB hard drive, but SB only has 80GBs and after two years she still has almost half of that free. The main thing this Compaq has going for it is a 10-inch screen (all of the others have 8.9″), and since the main reason for getting this baby is to show prospective clients my Sevilla Tapas powerpoint presentations, having a larger screen is important to me. With my VAT refund it’ll end up costing me 312 euros.
I just feel like celebrating! And having this new computer would not only be a buzz, but it will really be a serious business asset. Or I could just get a kitten …

Go, Gadget Girl!
As well as being useful for the Sevilla Tapas stuff, if you develop the technology teaching side of things, having something really portable might come in handy.
That’s really great news about the results

Re: Computer Vs. Kitten…
A computer can’t cuddle up to your ear and purr you to sleep…
Of course, you can’t surf on a kitten…
You don’t have to clean out a little box for a computer but if you already have other cats, what is one more litter box?
A computer isn’t the least bit sympathetic when your feeling poorly, but a kitten usually is (or it pretends it is because IT KNOWS you are it’s meal-ticket… whereas, a computer doesn’t care that you are its meal-ticket and it will piss you off, no matter how much you threaten to toss it out the nearest window… a kitten is too darn cute to throw out the nearest window…).
Does this help?

“You can’t surf a kitten” lol
Well, there’s relief in the Ms. Cowfish and Mr. Metro household tonight! Whew!
My 2 cents worth:
If you have the money, get the computer. You have kitties already to give you purrs and cat hair, and while a kitten is cute-cute-cute, you’d still have to deal with incorporating a new cat into the household, potential personality conflicts and all.
🙂
But the best advice I ever got was: “…but don’t take my advice!” You’ll know what to do!

Why not just get both? Computer and kitten, that is. They don’t seem to me to be mutually exclusive.

That is such wonderful news! I’m thrilled. Who would have imagined this a few months ago? Woohoo!
I hope that your new oncologist is an improvement, too!
As for the computer vs. kitten…both sound good to me.

Whew, (gasping) it’s really hard to hold your breath that long.
Glad it’s all negatory.
Re the laptops: what’s the weight difference? That might matter if you’re herking it around all the time.

“Why not just get both?”
Now why didn’t I think of that? 😉
Actually, now that the initial thrill of yesterday’s good news has worn off a bit I am feeling a lot more practical about how to spend the next three months. And it may indeed include getting a mini computer, but I reckon I’m still about a month away from making that decision as there is still a lot of work to do on the Sevilla Tapas blog, including turning it into a proper website. Can anyone help with that?
Also, there is the question of money. I still only have about 3-4 English classes a week, which means I will soon be buying groceries with my credit card, and so the new computer will definitely have to wait until I can get more income, um, coming in.
The original plan was to spend this month doing R&D on Sevilla Tapas and then next month I’d focus on marketing and promotion, all the while doing some teaching in the afternoon/evenings. And I’d like to stick to that plan because I’m actually getting a lot of work done in the mornings, as well as sticking to a good exercise programme. But my students have yet to settle back into a going-to-class routine and so far no new ones have come my way (though I’ve been advertising since last month).
Ah well, it’ll all work out somehow. And it actually does give me a boost knowing that – at least for now – I have no evidence of disease and the next scary testing won’t be done again until April/May.
And now I’m off to yoga class! Thanks for all the good wishes everyone. *hugs*

Metro, I gave up caring about soft furnishings about, oh, 16 years ago.
Pip and I went out to do some computer research this morning and out of all the minis we saw, the Compaq seems the best option because of the larger screen. Apparently the 400€ sale price is in effect until the end of the month, so there’s still time to decide.
Other things to do first.

Great news, az! Re, the blog to website thang, isn’t it just a matter of transfering the images to a personalized domain? I’m fairly clueless, but I think that’s how it goes.
I’d go for both, kitten and computer, but I’m an impractical person…the Compaq looks like a good deal, to me too.

Well, considering that I’ve only ended up with ONE English class this week, I won’t be buying anything anytime soon. Meanwhile, the lovely & talented Kim has been tweaking the Sevilla Tapas site (between chemo sessions) and it’s starting to look like I can get away with the blog setup, though I may have to change my theme again! Kinda hope not, as I’ve become quite attached to that orange.
So … maybe the mini computer next month. And no kitten. At least not until things settle down a bit.
Still waiting to hear when my next oncology appointment will be. Must remember to call Ricardo tomorrow.

That is the best possible news the universe could have provided. Congratulations; not only are you on your way back to health, but you’re upgrading your medical team, too. Could not be better.
AND you’re staying focused on your real life issues and prioritizing. That is so awesome! I’m so happy for you!
And this is also a kick in the butt to get my lesson plan done. This month I’ll have my friend Raul teaching for me, but he’s teaching TweetDeck and doesn’t need any lesson plans. I’ve got to get those done because if you can find a classroom with wireless, you can teach a laptop class easily enough.

I’ve got Pip to thank for keeping me prioritised, Rain. Our weekly meetings really help a lot. Now if we could only learn to have them without quite so much wine involved …
Looking forward to seeing those finished lesson plans. Soon?
