Today’s Photohunt theme is “digital”.
About four years ago I suffered serious digital damage whilst straightening out the cover on my sofa … after a particularly hard push to tuck the damn thing in the tendon in my middle digit went SNAP! and I had to have surgery to attach the two ends back together. It was a good two months before I could use it properly again as I had to have a half-cast on it for a couple of weeks, then a plastic splint thingy for awhile. Even today it’s remains quite bent, though not swollen like in the pic on the left, and at least I can still use it.

It’s amazing how easily and unexpectedly such things happen, isn’t it? And afterwards you ask yourself the question, “How on earth did I inflict so much damage on myself in such a ludicrous way?” I remember when I managed to slam the car door on one of my ‘digits’ … oh the agony!!!, closely followed by a trip to A&E to have a hot needle sear a hole through my nail to release the blood trapped behind it. I lost the nail, of course, a week or so later.

Ouch! my friend had a similar accident while pulling her sock off with her middle finger… I learned not to do it anymore, just in case.
Good take on the theme, though!

I can relate to snapped tendons. It is no fun is it. I did that to my quadriceps tendon in my led two years ago, It was only last summer that I could walk properly again.
An unusual take on the theme!

OW!
I dislocated my thumb when I slipped on the chiropractor’s table… THAT was bad enough! I DID have a tendon thing happen in my shoulder at the time I was working in the bookstore. I was sitting in the car and put my arm up along the back of the back seat. I felt something go “TWANG” in my shoulder. Months of physio, where they burned a nerve with the TENS machine. THAT was excruciating but at least I didn’t have to have surgery and it wasn’t a digit!

Ouch. Injuries happen in the darnedest ways. The first time my back went out I was leaning forward with a one litre watering can, watering some pot plants. TWANG! And three weeks flat on my back! Damaged fingers are a real pain because we use each and every one of them in so many ways.

In fact, I have never put my back out by doing something “dangerous” like lifting something too heavy or at the gym. No, it’s always something stupid like turning to close the door or putting clothes in the washing machine…

A half cast for “just” one broken finger? That looks excessive!!
Me — I’ve somehow only ever broken bones where one can’t really put a cast — i.e., ribs and nose! :O

The finger wasn’t broken – the tendon snapped in two at the first knuckle leaving the first joint of my finger just hanging there. By half cast I mean that the plaster part was only along the inside of my forearm and palm of my hand – the top length of my arm and hand was bandaged to the plaster. In any case, it was damned uncomfortable.
Have never broken anything – ribs and nose sounds pretty painful.
