Christmas came early today at casa az
After looking at several different cameras within a certain price range we stumbled upon this one last night and then went back this morning for a better look. And frankly, it has everything we want and need and the discounted price included a leather case and a 1 giga memory card, so what the heck. We bought it.
On our way home we stopped at Ay Maricrú! for a pre-lunch drink, and also to start playing with our new toy. Nog was in charge of reading the instructions, I was in charge of pressing all the buttons and going – “oh this is so cool!”. And when Carlos showed up with another round of drinks I said – “Look at our new camera! It’s our Christmas present for each other”, and Carlos winked at Nog and said – “So when do you get to enjoy it?”. Well ha. He gets to enjoy all the photos, doesn’t he???
Anyhow, just charging up the battery now and looking forward to taking our new gorgeous baby out for a trial run this evening. And we’re also looking for a name … thought about using one of the muses but they don’t really seem to fit. Any ideas?
Here are the specs.
[update: new camera name is Holly]

Now – how boring is that colour 😉
If you are considering mythological names, how about Aglaia – one of the graces, I have found her defined as representing splendour and brightness?

Yeah well, these were the colour options, so you can probably understand why we went with classic silver.
I like the definition of Aglaia, but the name itself sounds a bit ick.

I thought that actually – I was looking for something like Echo – but with pictures instead of words (echo & narcissus) and that was the nearest I could find.

Well, how about Clio, the muse of history? You are recording history with it, right? Clio Casio, sort of has a ring to it.
I think it is very cool, but Jim opines that it is too small. He thinks a camera should feel like a camera. I think that something that will easily slip into your shirt pocket sounds quite handy.

Yeah, it’s pretty small alright. Not much bigger than my mobile phone. But that’s one of the things I like about it.
I think Clio fits in terms of meaning, but I’ve never liked names that start with ‘cl’ (no idea why).

Don’t forget Claude, Clive and Clancy. Actually, I think I’m not fond of ‘c-names’ in general, which is also why we’re not calling it Cassandra (or Cassie), which would work rather well with Casio.
One drawback with this camera is that it has a little stand for recharging and transferring photos, which is not quite as comfortable as the Sony (which had a separate battery charger thingy and you could plug the camera directly into your computer without needing to also plug it into the mains).
On the other hand, transferring the photos tends to use up a lot of battery power, so maybe it’s better this way. And perhaps the new super-thin Sony models also have the same set up.
Anyhow, first photos taken with _______ last night (that filo packet thingy was amazing!).
