Made me smile when I changed the pages in my daybook last week and saw what I had used for my first ever Photohunt entry – the theme that week was “hope”. That was a year ago today. And so I have made a new one for next year.
At the time I had no idea that I would have a recurrence a few months later and end up spending much of 2009 being sick on chemo and then recovering from that. I still have pretty bad neuropathy in my feet, but the other day Nog asked me how the “chemo brain” was and I realised that I’m actually thinking – and functioning – a lot better these days. I’m able to focus more and keep things straight in my head. My memory is still crap, but I think it always was (heh, can’t remember). And so, there have been some improvements.
I’ve said elsewhere that my main hope for 2010 is that I’ll have a clean PET scan this month, that the abdominal pain I’ve been experiencing is due to the hernia and old scar tissue (not more cancer!). Well, really that I’ll have a cancer-free year. I have a few projects on the go that I hope will start bringing in some income soon. And I like to think of myself writing about this post next January 3rd.
What are you hoping for this year?

Well – that we are both around to read each others’ blogs this time next year, and are feeling good and healthy while doing so, is my main ‘hope.’
And that I don’t let the sound of the wheels spinning all around me at work get to me.

Yeah, I suspect our hopes are very similar, Gaelen.
One day at a time, eh? *hug*

I am going to continue my “Pollyannish” ways a believe that you will continue to improve in health, that your neuropathy will heal and that you will remain cancer free. I read my comment on that “Hope” post and I see that my prediction has come true, and I’m glad for that!
Our hope here at the Havens is that we can save enough money to go on another cruise across the Atlantic. The last one was so fantastic and wonderful, we’d like to do it again. It would be fun to embark in Barcelona and see the Gaudi architecture there. Ideally we would be able to visit Sevilla again too.
Of course, we always hope for good health too. This Christmas we had a little scare when Jim had a medication reaction and started having irregular heartbeats at night coupled with chest pains. Thank goodness it resolved itself speedily after he stopped taking the offending drug. We just don’t need stuff that like happening at such a young age!
I also hope that I will lose the last 13 pounds to get to my goal of 150, and that my skin will eventually shrink to my new size. I have impressive wrinkles all over my body right now, I feel like one of those Sharpei dogs. If I had known how much my integument had to stretch to accommodate all that weight, and how horrid it was going to look when I finally lost it, I might have been more careful about gaining it in the first place!

I love your “pollyannish ways”, hmh … long may you think kind and healing thoughts about my and others.
Glad to hear Jim is okay. And I am sure you look and feel gorgeous.

I’m so very glad that you are “still here!” I look forward to next year’s January 3rd post from you, as well. This seems like a grand tradition of hope.
I have only vague hopes for myself for the new year. I hope that I’ll get to be more productive, more organized, and that my life will be less chaotic. I also hope that there will be travel to exciting destinations. (I don’t think I’ll be able to top 2009’s Spain trip. That trip was so wonderful for so many reasons, not the least of which was meeting you!)
It makes me happy to see the lovely backdrop for your day planner in the photo! It’s quite fun to see my sister’s design in use. (Though not as a tea towl, I see!)

It’s too pretty to use as a tea towel, so it is usually coverying the little end table next to my comfy chair. The other two are still waiting to be opened.
Your visit was definitely one of the highlights of 2009, and I admire that you tackled such a long trip away with the kidlets. It really was lovely spending time with you and your family.
I think that you are plenty productive and organised (all things considered!), and I wish you less chaos as the kids become a bit more independent. And more travelling. Well, you will keep us all informed on your blog, I am sure.
